Could I major in Computer Science and Engineering and still be premed?

I want to break into the video game industry if I do not have what it takes to become a doctor, so I was just wondering. I am really torn between the two right now, and I would just like to know if I would be able to be premed if I majored in Computer Science and Engineering.

Yes, you can, but you would need to take the basic coursework in the Sciences (like Bio, Chem, Physics). I have even heard of English majors applying to Med school.

i really want to be a video game animator but schools here in our place doesn't have the course that i want to take (bs multimedia arts), so i'm planning to take any course as long as i can be a video game animator…pls. help!

Is there a community college nearby that offers classes in gaming? Or a dedicated art school? See if they have the courses, and if they don't, they might be able to direct you to someone that does.

Also, contact a couple of game companies and ask what they require in order to hire you as an animator. They may also be able to direct you to schools, or maybe online programs.

Speaking from absolutely no experience though i did look into it… it is a very competitive industry and very difficult to get into – most developers tend to want 10 or more years experience – on successful games (but how do you get that experience? – catch 22).

I have got a degree in computer science myself – I'm still in the middle of determining if it was really worth while – I'm sure it does look good on a CV but as far as any software engineering goes, the more practical experience you have – the better you look. I think there are some software houses that occasionally offer video game apprenticeships that allow you to figure out what area you are good at (design/programming etc.) but if i was to put my money on the best way id start modding games that are already out there – it seems like a good way to build up a portfolio, this is proof you can create/work-on games/software related to the job title you apply for – a degree is only really proof that you can work.

EDIT:
Just a quick note on my compsci degree – it had absolutely nothing to do with video games, it was a very general overview really – some useful programming concepts but on the whole not relevant to video games. Funnily enough i chose the course because i liked video games but Ive since realized that messing with computers is more of a hobby than anything i want to do for a living.

If you are dead set on getting into video game industry though i would advise you choose any courses more specific to the industry – there are universities that provide "video game design" degrees.

i study in a college in california. I want to become a game programmer, but in my college there is only Computer and Information Sciences, Computer and Information Sciences and Support Services,
Computer Programming, Programmer.
If i study computer programming or computer science, can i become a computer game programmer?
What should i study except programming??

I’m studying Computer Science and Software Engineering in England, from experience, if you want to do game programming pick a course with good AI and Computer graphics (2D and 3D) modules, they both need to have plenty of practical hours for you to know develop your knowledge.

A good combination with programming is Maths and to strengthen your AI knowledge Psychology is good.

ok….i'm in eigth grade in chicago and i know there will be a high school fair but still…ok…. i'm intrested in going to the field of video game programming,making,designing,producing,etc. and i know that requires computer skills.
so do u know any good high schools that offer that(computer science).

Is Computer Science a hard subject to major in?

I want to be a Video Game Programmer as a career and I was wondering if Computer Science is a hard subject to major in.

I am average at math and very good in English. But I am also very good with computers and can type quite fast. I know how everything works and can do a little programming in HTML.

So is computer science a hard subject to learn?

Computer science could or could not be a hard subject to learn. From my experience, it depends on the person. It's more about how good your logic is and how well you can think/visualize processes/functions through. Most people I've seen either get it or they don't. It does require at least decent mathematical skills as you will have to take math classes in linear algebra and discrete mathematics.

I’m taking up my thesis A this trimester and I need help collecting ideas for my proposal

Try writing a thesis on random emotional responses for non player characters based on interactions with player characters. I've always found the range of responses by NPC in video games to be lacking. Coding a response engine would be a great thesis and product.

Video Game design or computer science?

I've always wanted to be a videogame programmer, but i've heard computer science majors have similar skills anyway.
Which should I shoot for in order to become a videogame designer, and which schools offer the best programs for videogame design?
(I was hellbent on full sail for a while, but my counselor told me a 4 year college would be a better decision)

Do you want to be a designer or a programmer? They are two very different skill-sets.

If you want to program video-games, then computer science is a viable major. However, it killed most of the fun of programming for me.

I know that the University of Advancing Technology is a 4 year university that offers a game programming major. Have you looked into it?

Im a science scholar and we are given special privileges by the government such as stipends, free tuition fees, books etc. We have made a contract with the government that we shall take sci-tech courses in the future. It is considered that we owe our education to the people and later repay it by serving the country for a certain span of time. One of the rules to follow in school is: a scholar should not play computer games during weekdays and weekends but with an exemption for holidays. If a scholar is caught violating this, he/she is said to have made an offense which may lead to community service and even suspension. Now, we had proposed the abolition of this rule. We suggest that the prohibition be only during weekdays. B'coz we believe that we have the right to play and enjoy computer games like a usual teen does.There'll be a debate about this matter in our class next week and we are counting on you to help us in this thing. To all computer-gamers out there, we ask for your help.

The old criticism of gaming as bad for self-esteem seems to be falling apart as well with studies about success and self-esteem(check link to BBC). All technology is only as good or as bad depending on how it is applied.
