I want to major in something like Computer Science (or something of that sort) and want to stay in California. What school(s) would be a good one to look at? I have heard that UCLA and UC Berekley are good schools with technology. Are there any other CSU or UC schools that are very good in their technology education?

Spring Hill Institute of Technology, it's the shiznit!!

I'm going to be a junior this fall. My current classes are: 1. Biology AP 2. Chinese 4 Honors 3. Pre-calculus Honors 4. American Lit 5. US History 6. 3D design 2. I am trying to add another class which might be either AP music theory or AP computer science. I was just wondering if I don't get another class, is my current schedule "rigorous" enough? And if I get all As in these classes will it be good enough added to my 3.94 weighted GPA from sophomore year?

The most anyone (including the UCs) can expect a high school student to survive is 4 AP courses per year. The number of AP courses you take is also compared to the number of AP courses available at your high school. So if you are attending a competitive high school, try to cram a few community college courses over the summers.

Hi, is any one going to UCLA-berkeley. I have been conditionally accepted there for Computer Engineering & Sciences but, I was thinking of taking some extra summer courses that have the potential of being college credits. Do they re-evaluate me if I do? Or it doesn't really matter what marks I get during the summer program.

You are suppose to report all course/schedule changes (and that includes taking courses you weren't planning on before) to the campus after you are accepted. Getting bad grades may cost you the acceptance, so take courses you are confident in getting good grades.

I want to know what my chances are of getting into UCLA or UC Berkeley.

-I have a 3.6 GPA

I scored 1860 on SATs

-I am aiming for an IB diploma (hoping to stand out as there arnt many IB diploma candidates applying to US universities.)

- I am an international student studying in another country, although I am also a California resident since my parents have a house there.

-I am part of the Key Club, Stu Gov, National Junior honor society, Chinese honor society, a leadership position in Orphanage Club, a leadership position in World Vision, and I am also part of the chamber music group (an auditioned musical group with string instruments that takes only 2-3 players of each instrument…very hard to get in!)

-I have done 106 hours of volunteer work and 2 summers of internship with 2 big computer companies.

-I've gotten a few awards for community service for clubs at school.

- i write pretty good essays…

-Potential majors are something to do with science.maybe computers.

THANKS

Your SAT scores and GPA are a tinge LOW for either school, and even lower if you are applying to the schools of engineering.

UC Berkeley and UCLA are about equally competitive. You'd need an average of 650 on each section on the SAT and weighted GPAs of 4.0+ are typical.

You will need to rely on your CA residency (although I am not sure they will count you as a resident, even with the house) because it's very hard to get in as an international student.

On the bright side, you have good extracurriculars.

My options when entering freshman class are:

1. Rose Hulman Institute of Technology – Computer/Science Engineering
2. Illinois Institute of Technology – Computer Engineering
3. Purdue University – Electrical Computer Engineering Technology
4. UIC – Computer Science/Engineering

Where does my chances lie if I wanted to get my masters or PhD at Stanford, UCLA, or Caltech or UIUC???

Need answers fast as I am coming to a deadline on applying to schools soon?

I know that there is a grad student at Caltech who was a Rose Hulman student, so it might be possible to transfer there from Rose Hulman as well. I agree with the others that Purdue is your best bet, though.

In all cases it will be harder to transfer than to just wait and apply to grad school at Stanford, UCLA, etc.
