Debates have raged all over the internet about the existence or not of the Google sandbox. General consensus seems to point to the fact that when a site is new, it is automatically placed into the sandbox. And while it is passing the time of day in the sandbox, Google will not show any results for that site on the search engine page listings. Some people are of the opinion that if you acquire more links to your website, you can magically escape the clutches of the sandbox, others are less inclined to believe this. The people who do disagree with this theory reckon that only with the passage of time will you escape the evil monsters clutches.
To understand the theory of the sandbox, and many people do believe in it, you have to understand other concepts of SEO and internet marketing. Opinions may be divided over all things sandbox related, but most people will have an opinion based on experiences from the past.
Some people reckon they can achieve page one status on Google within a month of starting. They also say that they can have their site indexed within a few hours. Is the sandbox theory defunct because of this then?
Nevertheless, many people believe in the sandbox and have their own reasons for doing so. It could be that they haven’t a clue how to carry out link building properly. This means that when their site doesn’t show up in Google they automatically think they have been sandboxed. Second, they may be the opposite and get so many links in the first few days, usually low grade ones, that they get a Google slap. Don’t mistake this slap for Google’s sandbox though.
Therefore we can surmise that although in all probability the sandbox theory is a false one, Google can intentionally keep your site from doing well in the search engines due to bad SEO. Then again, this very fact may be the sandbox people keep going on about?
