I'm going to be a junior this fall. My current classes are: 1. Biology AP 2. Chinese 4 Honors 3. Pre-calculus Honors 4. American Lit 5. US History 6. 3D design 2. I am trying to add another class which might be either AP music theory or AP computer science. I was just wondering if I don't get another class, is my current schedule "rigorous" enough? And if I get all As in these classes will it be good enough added to my 3.94 weighted GPA from sophomore year?
The most anyone (including the UCs) can expect a high school student to survive is 4 AP courses per year. The number of AP courses you take is also compared to the number of AP courses available at your high school. So if you are attending a competitive high school, try to cram a few community college courses over the summers.

The UCs are more about numbers than anything else. No, you don't have the absolute most challenging course schedule as you could, but you have a great GPA. Match it up with a good SAT score (650+ on each section; maybe 700+ to be safer), and you shouldn't have a problem getting into Berkeley and UCLA.

I work with both Berkeley and UCLA as an Outreach Volunteer, primarily for freshman admissions (I received training on admission requirements and attend college fairs to promote the schools). I also volunteer to score Alumni Scholarship applications and interview the applicants (for the Los Angeles area) for both campuses. I received my BA from Berkeley and made a brief attempt (one year) at UCLA in a graduate program (PhD).
I offer free academic advising and college/scholarship application review to high school and transfer students I meet at college fairs, thru Yahoo! Answers and LiveJournal who are planning to apply to Berkeley and/or UCLA.
You can contact me thru Yahoo Answers if you need help planning your academic curriculum, choosing extracurricular activities, or writing your personal statement. Look in my profile for contact info. Please make sure your e-mail address is verified with Yahoo Answers or you can include your e-mail address in the body of the message you send me and I will reply directly.
